Our mission is to undertake basic and translational research relevant to the understanding of obesity, cardiovascular disease and related metabolic disorders, kidney diseases and cancer.
The investigators at the Wallenberg Laboratory have a unique breadth of competence, ranging from molecular cell biology, microbiology, lipidomics, mouse genetics and gnotobiotics to clinical studies. The laboratory is viewed as a model for successful translational research, and collaborations with national and international collaborators and the pharmaceutical industry are encouraged.
The Wallenberg Laboratory for Cardiovascular and Metabolic Research was established in 1987 by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Research Foundation and AstraZeneca. It is located within the Sahlgrenska University Hospital, Gothenburg, Sweden, and hosts 15 research groups (around 130 researchers and other staff) with a wide range of skills and expertise.
